December Missions Focus: December’s Missions’ Focus is local compassionate ministry. We will be restocking our Food Pantry so Pastor Jeremy can help local families in need of food. Please consider bringing non-perishable items to church during the month of December. There will be a container in the church foyer where you can put your donations. Pull-top canned goods are preferred because they are easy to open. Soup, canned fruit, baked beans, canned vegetables and canned diet soda are suggested items. Also, tuna pouches/lunches are a good choice. If you prefer, you can make a monetary donation and we will shop for you. Please mark checks “food pantry” and place in the offering bags.

Children’s Playground Wrap-Up: Saturday, Dec. 16 at 8AM. We need YOUR help wrapping up the children’s playground!

Mount Carmel Christmas Party: Sunday, Dec. 17, 5:30-7:30 PM. We’ll meet at the church and share a meal together and play some fun holiday games. Please bring a $5 gift for the gift exchange!

Christmas Eve Services: Join us for both of our services on Christmas Eve. We will be meeting at our normal 10:30 AM time, and will also meet at 5 PM for our annual Christmas Eve service.

Prayer Requests: If you need prayer for yourself or others, contact one of the pastors or Lisa to have your requests added to our prayer list.

The Thrill of Hope

Today’s passage is Luke 1:8-25.

Slow down and embrace the gift of what Jesus has done and is doing.

Look forward to what God is doing not back to our past mistakes.

Remember that God is bigger than our problems.

Joy to the World

Today we began celebrating Advent, while looking at it through the lens of worship. We examined joy this week. Here are some ideas for things we can do.

Say yes to this new reality, Christian faith and life, His way not ours.

Make space for the unexpected.

Pay attention to where God is breaking into our lives.

Oppression Patience and Prayer

In this message, Brian briefly reviewed James 1-4, so we could get to chapter 5 and show some of the repeated themes. The book repetitively talks about some issues like the rich and misused wealth for example.

The condemnation isn’t just about wealth but its misuse. See also 1 Tim 6.

Money’s relief is temporary; let us focus on eternal things.

Let us be patient, looking toward the end of the race. Job is the ultimate example of this; he was rewarded.

We should pray with each other, as long as it isn’t done for our glory.

Do we see sick as more than just physical ailment?

Are we willing to confess our sins to one another, praying for each other?

Here is the bulletin for the week.
